JOHANN WOLFGANG von GOETHE
Beyträge zur Optik. Erstes + Zweytes Stück.
Weimar: Im Verlag des Industrie-Comptoirs, 1791-1792. 8vo. [2], 62 + [2], 30pp. Uncut in original sheets.
Laid in stiff wrappers in solander box, decorated with illustrations from the facsimile portfolio of illustrations, produced in 1928.
The sheets with title and last pages are used as ”covers” for the rest of the folded sheets, therefore slightly smudged at outer edges and with minor tears in folds.
As first issued, without the errata leaf , which was only accompanying later issue copies.
Without the folded copper plate and large-format colored copper plate in part II. The coloured plate is always missing (believed to be lost, but first discovered in 1928), as well as the 27 colored copper plates.
The folded copper plate, which sometimes is to be seen in copies on the market, was produced separately from the text sheets. It would have been a separate print, and not part of the folded printed sheets, explaining the most probable reason for it missing here.
A unique set in its purest original form.
