GREAT NORWEGIAN PROVENANCE: Norwegian psychologist Ingjald Nissen [1896-1977], with his underlinings and comments.
Ingjald Nissen was a rare figure in 20th century Norwegian intellectual life, a free researcher who emphasized understanding central psychological, social, political and moral philosophical topics by combining theories and knowledge from many different subjects. He was a synthesis builder and a representative of interdisciplinarity 50 years before his time.
Without having any formal analytical training, he was one of the first to receive a license from the Norwegian Ministry of Social Affairs (1939). One of the reasons may have been that in the disputes that raged in Norwegian psychoanalytic circles in the 1930s, where he marked a clear distance both to the circle around Wilhelm Reich and to the pioneer among practicing Norwegian psychoanalysts, Johannes Irgens Strømme. In 1938, however, he was awarded a state grant which enabled him to devote himself to his writing. Source: SNL
